About us

Open Door is a not-for-profit housing association. We provide safe, furnished homes for adults who need a place to live, with support when it is needed.

Our mission

To open the door to a safe and settled home for every adult who needs one, and to help them keep it.

Our vision

Nobody should leave care, a hostel, a refuge, hospital or prison with nowhere safe to go. We want every person we house to feel safe, to be treated with respect and to move on to a home of their own.

Our values

Safe

Every home is checked before anyone moves in, and kept that way.

Respect

We listen to each person and treat them as an individual.

Honest

Clear rents, clear rules and straight answers for residents and councils.

Fresh start

We help people build skills and move on to a long term home.

How we work

  • We find good homes and furnish them to a clean, simple standard.
  • We match each person to a house that suits their needs and keeps everyone safe.
  • We agree a support plan with each person who needs support, and review it regularly.
  • We help each person claim the benefits they are entitled to.
  • We plan the move on to a long term home from the first day.

Our standards

What councils, support workers and residents can expect from us.

Safe homes

Gas, electrical and fire safety checks are done before anyone moves in. Repairs are reported and fixed quickly.

Clear paperwork

A clear rent breakdown, a signed agreement and signed support plans for the council's housing benefit team.

Safeguarding

Any safeguarding concern is reported to the right council team the same day.

Regular updates

The social worker, personal adviser or housing officer gets regular updates on how the person is doing.
